There are times and subjects presented so clearly and directly within the Scriptures that they require very little explanation or commentary to understand. I believe this principle is one of those. So, with that in mind, I give you the passages, and I will share a little of my response and understanding of them at the end of this post.
John 8:31-32
[31] So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; [32] and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 14:6
[6] Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 1:1,14
[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[14] And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 8:36
[36] So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.

To me, these passages come down to a few key points. I will start at the end result and provide the process to get to it.
- “If the Son sets you free, then you are truly free.”
- “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”
- “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples. “
- “In the beginning the Word was God.”
- “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
- “I am the Truth”
So let’s put it all together –
If we know the truth, then we are set free. As we know, Jesus is “The Son” and the Truth. Thus, if He sets us free, then we are truly free. How do we come to know the Truth? We know the Truth by being in the “Word.” Which yet again points us back to Jesus.
If we are truly His disciples, we will continue to learn, obey, and follow His Word.
When we do, the Word is lamp unto our path to helps us to remain in the Way walking in freedom with Trurh as our guide leading us to Ĺife.
